Lennie Made the Right Decision in Mice and Men free essay sample

Of Mice and Men Essay It has to be a tough decision to make when your option is shooting your best friend. In â€Å"Of Mice and Men† by John Steinbeck, George decided to shoot one of his best friends, Lennie. â€Å"Of Mice and Men† is about some farmers that dream to get there own place. The book takes place in the Salinas Valley. George and Lennie travel together and Lennie is always getting them into trouble, though, Lennie truly doesnt mean to. It lead to a heartbreaking decision for George. George made the right choice on shooting Lennie because he did it out of love. George could have got blamed also for killing Curley’s spouse if he helped Lennie. George and Lennie might have been able to run away and not of been caught, but that is by chance, Curley had the police searching too. Curley said, â€Å"you’re comin’ with us, fella† (98) because he didnt trust George and thought he was in on it. George is saving Lennie from suffering. He knew Lennie would be lynched and tortured if he was found and didn’t want him to go through that. Curley said â€Å"ill shoot ‘im in the guts† (96) when he found out about it. Candy also told George that â€Å"Curley gon’ta wanta get ‘im lynched† (94). So George saved him from the pain by shooting him in the back of the head so Lennie didnt feel a thing. George stopped Lennie from hurting anything/anyone else. Yes, Lennie doesn’t mean to hurt people/animals and he doesnt know his own strength, but he gets George in trouble by these mistakes and still does harm to other people/things. Lennie said â€Å"I pinched their heads a little and they was dead-because they was so little† when he is talking to George about Mice. Lennie also said â€Å"I was jus’ playin’ with him. . . an’ he made like he’s gunna bite me. . . an’ I made like I was gunna smack him. . . an’ I done it. An’ then he was dead. † When lennie is talking to Curley’s wife about the dog he killed. George made the right choice on shooting Lennie because he did it out of love. George could have got blamed also for killing Curley’s spouse if he helped Lennie. George is Saving Lennie from suffering. George stopped Lennie from hurting anything/anyone else. George saved himself from any chance of trouble or pain that could have been caused.
